Wiener Neustadt – Quilt Fest 2018

banner2This article is also a warning about how easy and hard to come around with us.
Easy, because there are no pre-compiled programs, imposed mandatory targets and route plans march.
Difficult, because you go a little’ adventure, adapting to what is due and always sympathetic to the unexpected or the unusual.
Easy, because there is nothing to do but get carried away, by a bus, a train, a current, emotion, illusion.
Difficult, because it does it with the slow pace dictated by logistical contingencies and our phlegmatic temperament.
Wanting to put us over charging eleven you let me remember how much our "travel" style may seem, a ragione, injudicious.
How else to define the decision to get on a bus in the night to go down to eight in the morning in Vienna, and from there take a train to Wiener Neustadt, visit an exhibition (obviously it organized in a distant area from the center), then take the train to Vienna, and the same evening back on a bus to take us back home at dawn?
Crazy things, of network, and I did not feel to blame you. Madness apart, however, do not believe that it is not worth it. Sì, è vero, The overnight bus trip does not offer special amenities, However, it is less and less exhausting than establishing a strip of asphalt for hours, tight in a tin can and plastic in the midst of other tin cans and plastic (and even dangerous boxes said TIR). It is even less when the bus is fast and quiet, It equipped with all comforts, dal WC on board the recliners.
To be honest, we like to travel around people, the same that others perhaps fear or suspect, but which, it would be stupid to deny it, we are part.
In this regard, I would remove the whim to refer you to a bizarre blog article My3Place.wordpress.com entitled "Crazy things”, a text that offers an original reading and revealing the way we travel.
What is, the decision was taken, We have gone to Quilt Fest di Wiener Neustadt, costi quel che costi, just that costs just because our case is not infinite capacity, e, at least for this year, we had to "measure" the expenses giving up many European events. Of tomorrow there is no certainty, therefore, vedremo…
Lower Austria

Lower Austria

In short words, We report from this trip home confirmations and surprises.
The confirmation is that, come spesso capita, exhibitions patchwork They are organized in locations defilate, sometimes even improbable. I find it hard to believe that in all of Lower Austria has not been possible to find anything cuter of the industrial area of town just as inexpressive, and lucky that the place was reached by an urban bus.
The next edition promises better. It will be held in Carinthia, in the village of Althofen (We can get there by train), a place definitely more in tune with our strings, among other things, close to the medieval town of Friesach and the castle Hochostewitz.
The surprise is the fact that some Austrian artists are exploring new forms of expression by inserting it in their works also materials other than fabric, beyond the search for beauty for beauty, and stopping to chase models standard or easy aesthetic approaches. Some works were particularly valuable, shame they were sometimes penalized by a placement or inadequate lighting. Really nice idea instead was to hang the colorful banner vertical outside, near the entrance of the exhibition: regalavano cheerfulness in neat otherwise dominated by gray metal.
banner2After getting their fill of patchwork we returned to Vienna, and other dishes there waiting for us, for the eyes and the palate, sweet and sour at the same time.
Of marble heart
by Minerva dug
as a gift to the empire.
Each column a tombstone,
a dead losers
and one victorious.
Too many still deluded parade
in old clothes
of a party that was.
How much divine power
You are lost now
among the tables to the floor,
too sweet creams
to forget
bitter to be little.
Gives "All or nothing”, Stelio Vascotto.
A ogni buon conto, while we were there we did not miss anything, nor a charming walk in the Stadtpark, or a light dinner at Café Prückel and even delicious Buchteln baked in Café Hawelka.
In the short video below we have collected some pictures of our trip, including of course the visit to Quilt Fest, and albeit being a highly incomplete guide and spoiled by the personal taste, I hope to convince you to spend a few kilometers (are not many) to go and look “dal vivo” What combine quilter austriache. It goes without saying that I do not feel to recommend our travel methods, unless there is a well in you the mood of insanity, and then it would be quite another to go…
P.S. As always the pictures in the original format quilt You can be found in my album Flickr.
Enjoy!
