Mostra bagnata, mostra fortunata, dicono…
Certo è che il tempo, quel giorno di fine novembre, fece di tutto per dissuadermi dal visitare la mostra di patchwork a Bassano del Grappa.
Una pioggia stizzosa, condita da un vento dispettoso che rendeva inutile anche l’ombrello, prometteva di trasformare quella gita in una prova di sopravvivenza.
Si sa però che noi quilter abbiamo la testa dura: se mostra era prevista, mostra doveva essere, costi quel che costi.
Giunsi così, bagnata come un pulcino, a Palazzo Bonaguro che, per soprammercato, è all’altro capo di Bassano rispetto alla stazione ferroviaria.

Va da sé che erano esposti anche altri lavori interessanti, molti di stampo classico, estremamente impegnativi per dimensioni e tecniche impiegate.
Non che mancassero opere decisamente originali, come testimoniano un dettaglio ricavato da una coperta per un tifoso di calcio (indovinate di che squadra),
oppure questa semplice borsa “Betty Boop”, a riprova che, per creare cose carine, basta un po’ di gusto, un po’ di fantasia, ed un po’ di coraggio, il resto viene da sé.
Il tocco di pazzia, che non deve mancare mai, veniva fornito da questo allegro pannello di sapore un po’ fiabesco ed un po’ naif.
Come se non bastassero le difficoltà intrinseche a questa nostra passione (Hobby? Arte? Dal passato è giunta fino a noi questa coperta del diciannovesimo secolo,
una specie di macchina del tempo che, in quest’epoca di gusti volubili, ci ricorda che, mentre le mode passano, il patchwork resta, e sempre resterà, a dimostrazione di cosa si può ottenere, impegnando fantasia e volontà, con dei semplici avanzi di stoffa.
Perché l’essenza del patchwork è questa: unire per dare forma, vita, voce, a entità altrimenti insignificanti, così vale per le semplici note che formano una sinfonia, le semplici piante che fanno un giardino, e le (non sempre) semplici scelte quotidiane che fanno una vita intera; the ability is to compose them in harmony, so that "the set is different from the sum of the parts”.
